Digital development and support operations in India
Initially in Chennai (formerly Madras, Tamil Nadu, South East India) then in Mumbai (formerly Bombay, South West India), I have organized transfert the development, testing & support activities to a captive development center (ie. working exclusively for Saint-Gobain).
The interest to do so is to benefit from really attractive salaries and a large volume of qualified engineers. The offshorization implies to invest more in specifications, training, communication, follow-up (which is done by the onsite team) to make work successfully the offshore team.
The challenge is human too. First to work in India is very exotic for a European which makes the experience very interesting. Then because to make work the model implies to find a commmon way of working which is not an easy thing to do.
This kind of operations can be done for the classical website developments too but again require to know in advance the expected results and to test sustematically and regularly what is delivered.
Finally, the key success factor is the identification of good local managers who will be regularly invited to see you (and vice-versa).
